    Description: Mendelssohn's Elijah
Don’t miss this opportunity to witness the epic story of Elijah unfold. Join us for an evening of inspirational and beautiful music.

Mendelssohn’s Elijah is a powerful and dramatic oratorio, based on the Biblical story of the prophet Elijah who is a figure of both fiery conviction and deep introspection.  Experience the prophet’s stirring words and the extraordinary trials he faces.  Hear the awe-inspiring beauty of the music as Elijah defeats the prophets of Baal. There are soaring choruses, exquisite solo arias and breathtaking orchestral passages.

A stellar cast of soloists, a large chorus and a professional orchestra under the baton of Bryan Gipps (“entries were almost frighteningly precise” – Church Times) will bring this masterpiece alive.

The title character sung by Simon Thorpe (“vocally and dramatically convincing” - Seen and Heard International) faces dramatic trials and triumphs. The supporting soloists have captivating solo arias: soprano Helen Bailey (“one of the most talented sopranos of her age” – Buxton Festival), mezzo soprano Frances Bourne (“warm and responsive” – MusicWeb) and tenor Clifford Lister (“tonal richness and superb musicality” - Hyperion).

“Elijah is like an opera. It comes right at you, and the choruses are overwhelming, and yet it also has lyrical moments, the oases of calm that make this piece just so beautiful.” – Sir Antonio Pappano
